Using Security Alarms While Traveling

Return to Spyville.com

When you are traveling you should follow some basic rules in order to protect yourself. Your home security camera system cannot travel with you and even though you are well protected while at home you need to be conscious of your security wherever you are.
First off a little common sense goes a long way. Like the announcement at the airport says do not leave your bags unattended. A laptop bag is recognizable to most anyone and is the easiest to pick up and walk away with. Everyone has a bag and who would notice who picks up what?

You should also remember to keep your zippers closed or use a zipper alarm to protect your stuff.

Keep a little cash in your pocket during your trip so you can keep your wallet in your pocket. No need to show off how much money or how many credit cards you have. People who pay attention will know what to look for and what pocket you keep the wallet in.

Hotel room are not very secure while you are not in them. A door security alarm can be used to keep unwanted guest out of your room. Keep your wallet and passport with you no matter what. DO NOT leave them in the room. I am sure that most maids are honest but why take a chance. Keep you bags closed and your laptop or other personal electronics in their own bag. I think even the trunk of your rental car is safer than hotel room.

Most airline do not allow you to lock your bags anymore but they have no regulations about ribbons, you can tie a red or yellow ribbon on the zippers to keep them closed. Inspectors can untie the ribbons if they want to inspect the contents. A thief will just move to the next bag its faster and easier than untying yours.

The best security tool you have is still your brain. Watch out for things that may lead to problems.
