DANVILLE — Vermilion County board and Danville city council members approved the purchase of office equipment for the Public Safety Building on Wednesday night.

The City/County PSB Committee, comprised of both county board and city council members, recommended replacing 12 remaining older computers that are six years old or older, one server and three laser printers for the city’s police department at a cost not to exceed $39,600.

Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason said the computers are outdated and “this will get us better in line for a rotation for the future.”

The committee also recommended approving the purchase of a copy machine for the Danville Police Department at the PSB at a cost not to exceed $2,745; and a phone recorder for the records section of the PSB at a cost not to exceed $5,720.

Thomason said the copier is used for Freedom of Information requests for reports and is used daily.

He added the telephone recorder allows the department to record all phone calls that come into the records division. The department can monitor the type of calls, what information the caller was given and how the caller was treated.

Thomason said the current system has been used on several occasions to prove or disprove complaints made against police personnel.

Installing your own CCTV Cameras or a camera system can seem like a daunting task. Installing cameras is not difficult but does require a certain method in order to obtain the best possible results from your efforts.

First off you will need to obtain a security camera system there are many different types of camera systems CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) is usually used in commercial applications and the cameras are not plug and play.

A cctv camera is usually made to be used indoors and has a wide assortment of
lenses that can be used with it. CCTV Cameras do not include lenses and have a specific style lens that needs to be used based on the camera format. Most CCTV cameras are 24 volt AC instead of the more used 12dc that spy cameras and hidden cameras use. Some cameras are available in dual voltage they have a special circuit inside that allows you to use either 12 volt DC or 24 AC power.

There are many types of lenses for cctv cameras they include powered and non powered lenses. Auto iris and manual iris zoom , vari focal and fixed .

Powered: A powered lens takes power from the back of the camera using a four pin plug or a 2 conductor cable
Non Powered: The lens requires no power to operate.
Auto Iris: An auto Iris lens adjust automatically f to the amount of light available.
Manual Iris: You need to set the Iris to a position that allows just so much light in. (Not used much any more)
Vari-Focal Lens: The lens can be adjusted manually and locked in position. This type of lens is very good for on going construction and for loss prevention people who move their cameras often.
Zoom lens: A powered lens that uses a control to zoom in and out live.
Fixed Lens: A fixed lens is a permanently fixed field of view.

Security is important for everyone. You cant just depend on an alarm system or a camera system. You do not need to spend large amounts of money to help in your personal security just use a little common sense.

When I worked for an installation company my boss was forever pushing us to sell home inspections. At the time he charged 29.99 and would go out and look around, print a report and collect money.

What you need to do is put yourself in the place of a criminal. Take an hour one afternoon to figure out a way to get into your house NOT break into your house. Walk around the whole house check all the doors and windows including the garage and basement doors. You would be surprised at the number of people who leave a door unlocked. Look at the basement windows you may not be willing to crawl through them but a criminal would. How about you shed or barn is it locked? A simple padlock will send a criminal next door or down the street (hopefully to another neighborhood) That is the point. Make them work and they will leave, if criminals wanted to work they would get a job, knowing it will be easier somewhere else makes their choice for them, why work when they can just walk in to somewhere down the street.

Why bother to lock my garage there is nothing there to steal. Well unless you have a big empty room and keep nothing but your car in the garage there is something to steal. Plus once a criminal knows of an unlocked door what keeps them from coming back when the car is there? Or waiting for you to return. Home invasion is rampant in the US so why give that extra edge to them? Even a handful of tools and some old appliances can be sold for cash for what ever the needs of the person who steals it.

TEN TIPS TO HELP KEEP YOUR HOUSE SAFE.

1. Screw your basement windows closed. ( you can break them if you need to get out for a fire)
2. Lock your doors. You paid for the locks you might as well use them.
3. Don't leave easily removable items in the yard. I would guess that crimes of opportunity must be a large percentage of overall theft. A bike or a small lawn mower left in the yard overnight night just disappear.
4. Use door guards on your sliding doors this is as easy as cutting a broomstick to fit.
5. Don't advertise what you buy. A giant cardboard box in the front of your house from that new flat screen is an invitation
6. Old but good, stop your mail and newspapers when you go on vacation
7. Lock your car doors. Cd's and ipods are easy to grabs and walk away with.
8. Keep your wallet in your pocket and put some cash in your pocket. Same for a purse. Why show everyone how much or what is in your wallet or purse.
9. Don't leave notes on the door for deliveries letting them know that you are at work all day or next door having coffee.
10. Video tape or take pictures of everything you own ( it really does not take that long)you can give this to the police if something should happen.

If you make it easier for the police they can do a better job. Just like everything else in life if you take a little time to be prepared you can avoid theft for the most part.

Some dome camera are varifocal, this means the the lens in internally adjusted. This high resolution dome camera has a built in 2.8mm to 10 mm lens making it very adaptable to many situations that you may need a camera for. The lens size determines the focal range (view)of the camera. In example a 2.8 mm lens is a very wide picture approximately 25 feet wide @ 10 feet away the edges do become blurry at that lens size (also called a fish eye lens) and at the other end of the lens 10 mm picture is only about 4.5 feet wide at ten feet away. Three men have been charged in connection with a series of big marijuana grows uncovered by police in both Idaho and Oregon.

Javier Silva-Rangel, Froilan Rubio-Gomez and Horacia Deavila-Cabrera have been charged with Conspiracy to Manufacture and Distribute 1,000 or more Marijuana Plants.

Rubio-Gomez and Deavila-Cabrera are now in federal custody. Silva-Rangel remains at large.

According to the Federal court documents obtained by Today's Channel 6 News, the arrests culminate a three-month investigation which involved search warrants being issued on three Canyon County homes. The homes are at 505 Constitution Way and 1712 Juniper Street in Nampa and 2707 Bristol Avenue in Caldwell. Officials raided the homes last week.

Police say they were conducting surveillance on a "number of subjects who are engaged in manufacturing marijuana on public land."

Court documents say, beginning about April of this year, detectives began contacting local sprinkler and irrigation supply companies in both Ada and Canyon County, after men were seen purchasing large quantities of plastic pipe, hand-operated values and water emitters. The men made all the purchases with cash. Similar vehicles were used.

The same day the homes were raided, authorities in Owyhee County seized about 4,000 marijuana plants in a remote region near South Mountain.

Also last week, authorities in Harney County, Oregon, discovered some 6,000 marijuana plants being illegally grown near the Alexander Mine drop off point. Police say they used GPS tracking devices to determine that the vehicles used to purchase the irrigation supplies were also seen in the vicinity of the marijuana grow. The GPS also showed the vehicles made stops at the Nampa and Caldwell houses that police later raided.

Recently, grow operations were discovered in Boise, Valley and Owyhee Counties. Authorities determined the street value of the drugs were into the millions of dollars. The operations were found on BLM and Forest Service land.

Although the suspects have only been linked to the marijuana grows in Owyhee and Harney Counties, authorities say more arrests could be announced later this week.

A solid white or black horizontal line on a wireless picture means it is getting interference from an outside source. Static means the camera is to far away or that the signal is being blocked.

Mini Cameras: Mini Cameras are very small cameras that you can hide on your own. The average size is 3/4 X 3/4 and they need a very small hole 1/8 inch to see from The camera is usually mounted behind a flat surface like a picture or the face of a portable device like a clock radio or air purifier. Board Cameras:

Bug detectors are basically RF (radio frequency) finders. Bug detectors will respond to any wireless device within it range. This make searching for a bug difficult.

Lets first look at what ranges Bug detectors cover. Many detectors cover from 50MHz - 6.0GHz. This covers the normal frequencies that wireless devices use.
50 MHZ (megahertz) is the low end of the scale this is where you will find most voice transmitters. As you move up the scale to the GHZ (gigahertz) you get into the wireless camera frequencies.
MHz and GHz are just frequency denominators IE: 1000 MHZ is equal to 1 GHZ so a 2.4 GIG camera can also be considered to be a 2400 MHZ and a 5.8 GHZ can be a 5800 MHZ.
This is not to be confused with say a 10 meter radio that runs around 29.0 (lower than the range) or 27.0 (cb radio).

Between 50 and 6000 MHz are where most spy devices are located. The federal government uses between 406- 420 MHZ ( approx).

The process for locating bugs is simple but time consuming. You need to be aware of all the wireless devices you possess. This can include but is not limited to,
Baby monitors 900 - 1200 MHZ (many others)
Wireless Routers 802.11 -(close to 2.4 GHZ)
Cordless phones 5.8-6 GHZ
Some Cell Phones (approx) 900MHz
Wireless Keyboards and Mice
Wireless speakers
There are many other wireless devices that can set off a bug detector so everything that you know to be wireless needs to be turned off, so you can avoid false signals. Other things to keep in mind are that your neighbours may have wireless devices such as routers and cordless phones.

So to start the process turn off everything that you know is wireless. The simple conclusion here is that what ever else you find is a bug or a wireless camera but that is not always true. You need to take interference into account. There is RF every where and our bug detectors are sensitive enough to pick it up.

How do you know if you find a bug? Well if you cant use the sensitivity setting on a detector to tune out the alarm . Then you start looking for devices. Bug detectors will not just light up and point to the bug it is a process. If you get a reading from a solid wall go to the other side of that wall and make sure that ther are no other wireless devices.

Remember that who ever put the bug is had to have access for a certain amount of time, you must take into account wether they had time to open a wall and then repair it so well that you cant tell. Look for more obvious places like in or around cluttered areas or under furniture. that is a much more likely location.

We start with our R and D department to research the type of device we can use for a Hidden Camera there are many things to consider when choosing a device. How to locate GPS trackers on a car.

GPS tracking systems and GPS vehicle trackers are difficult to locate using a detector. GPS trackers do no constantly transmit a signal, therefore you will not be able to locate them using an RF detector Unless you know exactly when they will be accessed. If the person using the GPS tracker is accessing and pulling information from the unit (this is usually via a cell phone signal) then and only then will you be able to detect the signal.

In order to help in locating GPS we need some background information on them first.

Live GPS Tracking : Live GPS tracking is a unit either battery powered or vehicle powered that will send a signal to report the exact location of the vehicle right now. (Real Time) This is very helpful in finding cars that need to be located at the time or that are missing or past due for an appointment. A real time GPS unit can be used for teenage drivers, wandering spouses aged parents and in some cases theft recovery. A vehicle powered GPS tracker is recommended as they will not need to be accessed again in order to change the batteries. live GPS trackers are also the most expensive. They have a monthly fee to be paid in order to obtain the information from the unit. This is called a plan much like a cell phone. Also much like a cell phone there are a multitude of plans available , each with their own characteristics.

Passive GPS Tracking : (past time tracker) ( AKA GPS logger ) This type of GPS unit is less expensive and has no monthly fees. They are placed on the vehicle and then removed at a later time and the information is then transferred to your computer. This is usually done via an included software and the data stored on the GPS tracker is over layed on a mapping system like Google Earth. You can then see the location of the vehicle for the time period that the GPS tracker was in the vehicle.

GPS trackers need to have a view of the sky somehow. This can be done through Glass Plastic wood, vinyl and fiberglass. Metal of any kind will severely limit the tracking ability of the GPS device . As a rule of thumb do not surround and GPS device with metal on more than two side. So a trunk would be a bad place for GPS. Under a plastic bumper would be a great place for GPS tracker.

Places to look for a GPS tracker include between the grill and radiator of the car. Underneath the seats of many vehicles, in the wheel wells (under the plastic) under plastic bumpers inside the dashboard. Under plastic interior panels and underneath carpet.

For the best search you will need to determine how much time someone may have had or was willing to take to install a GPS tracker on your car. Answer these questions for yourself in order to narrow down your search.

Was my car available for some one to put a GPS on it?
Do you park outside? or in the garage?
Where was my car parked for a long enough period of time to place a GPS tracker on it.
Is the lot at work secure?
Did I loan out my vehicle recently?
Do you lock your car doors?

If someone had only a short time to place a GPS tracker it has to be in a relatively easy location to get to. If someone has all the time in the world it can be very well hidden.

Another way to help locate it is the reason why it was done and by whom. If this is a domestic dispute the other party probably had access to the vehicle for a long time. If its an unknown entity that you believe to be tracking you it is more likely and easy location to access.

The process for location a GPS is simple. You will need some basic hand tools and a flashlight. A good pair of gloves and A basic knowledge of a vehicle and a few hours.

Go to a location that you will be able to open all your doors and windows while parked. (like an empty parking lot at the mall.) This is not recommended to be done in you driveway as the person or people who placed the device may see you. Begin by cleaning out everything from the vehicle. EVERYTHING! take out all the floor mats and anything in the trunk. Remove any personal items like CD cases and boxes, clothes and shoes, everything.

You will need to keep track of each location so you can be as efficient as possible. First check the bumpers front and back use the flashlight and your hands to check. Remember if they can reach it you can you need to be thorough you cant just try to search on your lunch hour or for a few minutes after work it will take some time.

Next we need to look under the car, again they need to be able to reach it so use your flashlight and look for a box or container that seems like it does not belong or that is attached to a flat area with a magnet or a zip tie, wire string or even rope could have been used. Remember be thorough if they had more than ten minutes to hide it you need to search for at least that long.

Now we move on to the trunk, ( I know it will not work in the trunk but check anyway) who knows what level of knowledge the people or persons have about GPS. Check everywhere climb in if you have to, look under the carpets and near the spare tire.

Next the inside of the car, pull the seats up, look under the passenger and drivers seat inside and behind the glove compartment look under the dash many new cars are all plastic and under the dash is an easy place to hide a GPS device.

Generally you need to open every door look in every pocket and ash tray every storage area and under or behind anything that moves.

Some common easy to miss spots. The head rests these have a zipper in may cars that can be opened and have a device inside. Tools and jack storage areas (mostly in SUVs).

Before you take anything apart make sure that the person who might have placed the device would have had time to remove that many screws or take apart the panel.

How to Connect A Spy Camera To Your TV

In order to view or record a spy camera image you need a monitor. This can be a “CCTV” monitor or a regular TV with RCA style Inputs (usually Yellow Red and White) on the back or front of your TV.

If you are using a “CCTV” style monitor just plug the video wire from the spy camera into the video “input” of the monitor. You will have a picture automatically. Some “CCTV” monitors will use an "A/B" Switch.

If you are using a “TV” or “VCR” you will need to tell the TV/VCR which input to use. Plug the spy camera into “Video In” on the TV/VCR (Usually Yellow) and use the Video selector switch to choose the correct input. (This is Usually found in the menu commands) Check the manufactures instructions if you need to.) Some VCRs use a "Input button on the front of the machine or on the remote. The input name can V1 V2 or L1 L2 or AUX or Game. There can be combinations of them as well.

If the VCR is connected to The TV using a Cable TV type wire, plug the spy camera into the VCR yellow inputs and use the VCR controls to set the input. (The input on many VCRS is L1 or L2)

If you are using a computer monitor follow the instructions that came with your video card or monitor to view the spy camera picture on a PC monitor.

Building your first hidden camera requires some small amount of thought. You need to be able to use basic tools including a drill and a glue gun, possibly a soldering iron, clippers electrical tape, a test meter and general ingenuity.

The first step is to decide what you are going to build the hidden camera into. This is not as easy as you think. First you need an item that is large enough to hide a camera in. Sometimes you don't know until you take it apart. Wall clocks and alarm clocks are popular because they have alot of room inside in many cases. Your hidden camera should be:

Something that will seem to belong where you are going to use it.
(A stuffed animal may be good for your baby's room or keeping an eye on your nanny but not so good for your office)

As stated something with enough room to fit a camera in.

Something inexpensive enough so you can get a few of them .
(You will need at least one extra in case you break it or make a mistake)

The tools mentioned above plus several others that may be required for your particular project.

Now to the camera. A black and white mini camera or (chip camera) should be used for low light applications. Its important to get a good camera not just the smallest but the better quality. This will be important later in details. A mini color camera can be used if you are sure that you will always be using your hidden camera in a well light area. Color cameras need real light to preform well again make sure that you choose not just by size but quality.

You will need to know the voltage of the camera so you can give it power. No matter if you use a wired hidden camera or a wireless hidden camera you will need to give it power. Batteries are possible for some hidden cameras but will not last very long. You are much better off running the camera from the devices power. This is something that should only be attempted by a professional Its not a good idea and we do not recommend it.

Once you have the item for your hidden camera picked out you will need the small camera the drill and the glue. DO NOT get Glue on the lens it ruins the camera and voids the warranty.

So now we have to choose a location for the camera inside the device. Make a cardboard mock up of the camera so you can check to see if it will fit in the spot you would like. Do not try to force it, mini cameras do not take well to being wedged into a location.

Once you have determined the location you need to drill a hole. This is best done in a dark area or behind an existing opening.

You will need to have the mini camera plugged in and running. (so you can see the picture).

After drilling the hole, carefully hold the camera in the location you choose. Make sure that you have a good picture through the hole. The next step is to glue. It would be best if you had help for this part as it is not easy to hold and glue. Make sure you still have the camera on and check the picture often to prevent vignetting. ( This is when you have a half black circle at the edge of the picture because the camera is not centered on the hole. This also happens if the hole is to small, you will have a black ring around the entire picture).

You have now created your own hidden camera.

Simple and effective security is mostly common sense. You would not leave your house with the keys in the door would you? Then why would you leave your keys in your car? With the engine running and you are inside. I know its cold but get an extra key for the door or get a remote starter. Don't make it easy for your car to be taken. Keep your wallet in your pocket and some money in your other pocket. When going to fairs and carnivals don't take your wallet out at every stop. Way to easy for a thief to see what you have and wait for you in a dark alley. Same goes for purses keep some money out so you don't have to open your purse and get out your wallet.

Lock your doors sounds like a broken record doesn't it? The best defense is a good offense. If a thief sees your CDs and just has to open the door and reach in don't you think they will? I called the pawn shop just now and asked how much I could get for my old CDS. He said good ones about 5 dollars bad ones about two dollars. So you have 20 CDS in your car a thief just made 80.00 dollars for 30 seconds work. I think I need to change occupations. Please for the sake of whatever you hold dear. Stop leaving your car running and unlocked at the convenience store the post office and in front of friends houses. Three times a week I see this. A thief may only want to take a joyride to the mall to steal CDs but why let that happen in your car?

More choices for spy gear include hidden voice recorders and phone recorders . Say for example you want to know whats being said in a car or a room when you are not there. You need a hidden voice recorder. These are usually small ( small about the size of a Bic cigarette lighter) and battery operated. They also have VOX or VAS or VAC or VOR and several other names. All of them stand for Voice activated recording. ( also known as voice operated recording). All mini recorders and hidden recorders have a limited battery life. So you can place it in a vehicle and it will record only when sound is heard, like voice or radio or road noise, but the batteries will only last up to 8 hours ( approx average battery life) Then they will stop recording. You can then retrieve them and listen to the recorded information. This may also be illegal in your area so you should check before you try it. The information you get can can be used for several purposes if you get to hear one side of a phone call recorded, you may get some times and dates and locations of where the subject will be. You may also hear conversations between the subject and a passenger. Again this is most likely against the law where you live. This information can be used to aid a Private investigator in finding the subject. It can be extremely useful in domestic cases where the husband or wife needs to locate where their spouse is going. Once you determine the subjects location you can arrive ahead of them and begin surveillance. You will save money if you have hired a private investigator as you will be able to tell them exactly where the subject will be and when. Other uses for voice recorders are in rooms where you know the subject will be. This is also a great place for using recorders that have an AC adapter they can be plugged in and may record as much as 200 hours of voice activated recording.

Phone recorders are very similar. They connect to the phone line between the wall and the phone. When you are ready to take the next step in choosing your spy gear you should take into account what, where, when and how often you are going to use it. Spy Gear encompasses a very large amount of equipment.

Your first decision should be what information do you want to obtain. IE: If you want to know where someone has been in a car do you follow them? Do you use a live GPS Tracker? Do you Hire a PI? If you get any information and you immediately throw it in their face you have wasted your money, time and advice and they will never let you get any other information.

Is this happening at work or at another location (like a hotel or other persons house) If so do you know where? If yes you can move on to video proof, if no you need to find out where. This can be accomplished by using a GPS tracker. It is placed in his or her vehicle and then removed several days later. You will then know the whereabouts of that vehicle 24 hours a day for the last few days. If you get lucky you will find a location that they stop at regularly that you do not recognize. Take your car out and drive by the address find out what they are and keep notes. You should have a complete record of stops so Home will be there work too and the store the coffee shop and so on, you are looking for somewhere that has no connection to the everyday life of the person. If for example they say they bowl on Tuesdays then the car should be at the Bowling Alley. If the cars is not there but in front of an unfamiliar house, is this proof? NO. Get the name from the mail box and look it up in the phone book. Do you know this person? Is it a friend of theirs that maybe they gave a ride to? When trying to find out information about a person you must give them the benefit of the doubt until you can absolutely positivly prove it.

CCD and CMOS cameras.

CCD Charged Coupled Device. A sensor that collects light and turns it into an electrical signal. As compared to CMOS sensors, it has greater sensitivity to light, better tonal range, and less noise which provides superior quality. CCD will hold onto the high-end CCTV market for some time to come. For imaging devices, a self-scanning semiconductor array that utilizes MOS technology, surface storage, and information transfer by shift register techniques.

CMOS Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor. A semiconductor fabrication technology that achieves low power dissipation. These types of devices are used in digital camera imaging sensors and consume less energy than other imaging devices, are inexpensive, but provide lower image quality compared to CCD sensors.

CCD cameras are best used for lower light situations or when a higher detail camera is required. IE: A Cash register camera needs to be a higher resolution camera because it needs the details to see where the money goes either in the cash register or in the pocket. Cameras that are installed to get an ID or face shot should also be CCD based.

CMOS cameras are used for a large number of items. They are less expensive than CCD cameras and are acceptable for many uses. Nanny Cameras and back up cameras are good examples. Most times nanny cameras will be in an area where there is enough light and you really do not need the higher detail to see that the child care is good enough or not.

You should always check the area where you want to put a camera at several times during the day to see how the lighting conditions change.

Color VS Black and White Cameras

Color Hidden Cameras are easier to watch and are best for Identifying people. IE: You can say the subject had a brown shirt and blue pants and a red car.

Black and white cameras are better for low light areas where you already know who or what you are watching.

Installing your own security camera system part two

So now you will need to decide how best to ID the person or persons breaking in. At least one good close up shot will need to be obtained. If you have four videos of the subject but none that show their face clearly you will have no proof that it was them.

We will need to set up a camera system that takes advantage of the local layout. An example of this is placing a camera where someone has to walk in order to enter. Like a gate, if a fence is high enough or pointed enough to keep people out that means that they will enter via the gate. So in that area you will need an ID camera, one that is close enough to get a clear face shot of the person, so there is no doubt that it is them, but far enough away so it cant be tampered with. This ID camera needs to be placed in such a way that people have to walk towards it in order to enter the building, yard, secure area.

Now again back to our story here is the subject entering, and a close up of his face, entering the door walking down the hallway and then here the subject is with your pet iguana under their arm, walking out of your house.

Now we know for sure that there is no way that the subject can say It was not me or I did not go there or touch that iguana.

Setting up the electronics on a complete video system, is usually easy as newer systems are plug and play and Internet ready. The plug and ply system include some instructions but will require that you think a little. make sure that you are using indoor cameras indoor and outdoor cameras outdoors. Check the entire video system out before installing IE: Connect all the cables and all the cameras to make sure that everything is working. There is nothing worse than pulling cable through the basement or attic and fining out you have a bad cable. You should also allow the system to run for a few days. An Internet ready camera system should be connected to your network at this time as well to get all the programming done. Once installed at the location you may not have an opportunity to contact help or access the Internet for set up instructions.

PC based are PC desktop computers that have been built or modified to preform as a digital video recorder.

Digital video recorders (DVR)

Are free standing dvrs that are designed to work as video recorders they are available in 4 camera 8 camera and 16 camera units. Their are some 9 and 15 channel units as well. The DVR is the brain of the system, it does all the recording and storing of the video. A dvr set up for Internet viewing can be connected to from anywhere that you can connect to the Internet.

Installing Your Own Security Camera System. Part one

You can install a security camera system yourself without paying an installer. This is the case in most situations, however some cctv cameras and spy cameras require an electrician to be completed.

Starting out we will assume that you have or are considering the purchase of a complete security camera system. The system should include cameras, DVR or similar recording device, wires / cables and power supplies. In some cases systems will come with monitors. Most times you will be able to use a TV to view the live and recorded images if your complete system does not include a monitor.

First a little theory on camera placement. You can try to cover every area with a security camera but this can become expensive. In some cases IE: Business and Banks will need to cover as much area as possible. Your house on the other hand may not need as much coverage. This , of course, depends on the problems you are having or anticipating.

CCTV Cameras are best placed where they can tell a story of the actions recorded. If you have a camera on the front door you will have video of a subject entering and leaving. That's not much help in say a laundry mat but at your house its enough to say they were there and broke in.

There are no universal placements for cameras, each situation will be different. Many business will need the best camera coverage on the cash register. Some business will need to have better coverage on the door or parking lot. Every business is different and needs a different security camera set up.

Probably the most important camera are the egress ones. These should be able to get a clear picture of the subject entering and leaving. So we have a number of doors, we will say two for this example, front and back. Now back to the story line. If you have a camera on the front door and one in the entrance way inside no one will be able to enter or leave without being on at least one camera so the story starts with the subject on the outside camera walking in and away from the camera then we have the subject entering the door and walking towards the inside camera.

Now to continue the story we need to assume that any one breaking in is going to go ... where?

Well assume you are breaking where do you keep valuables? I would go to the bedrooms first for jewelery and money. So your next camera might go in a bedroom hallway or stairs going up to the rooms. Whether you put a camera in the bedroom is up to you and may or may not be legal.

So our story goes we have video that shows this break in and the subject entering the house then see them walk inside then up the stairs and into the bedroom. Then reverse it and see them come out of the bedroom holding what ever they found to steal then down the stairs then exiting the door and the outside camera sees them come out. This makes it very difficult to deny that they broke in and gives you several chances to get a clear face shot ( for Identification) We will cover more of that in Part two.
